For this client feature, we’re excited to introduce a dynamic entrepreneur who’s been running her own salon for over 15 years. With a background in hairdressing, she’s created a thriving space where multiple self-employed professionals operate their own beauty and wellness businesses under one roof. Recently, she’s expanded her offering by opening a Japanese Head Spa, inspired by the growing trend on social media. From hairdressing to beauty treatments and holistic services, this salon is a hub of creativity and relaxation, all while offering a personal touch that keeps clients coming back.
Tell Us About Your Business!
Who are you, what do you do, what’s your history, where did it all start?
I have had my own Salon for over 15 years, working as a hairdresser. Everyone who works in the Salon is self-employed, and they were their own Micro businesses all under one roof. My Salon is in a factory unit that was once an office block over two floors. As the offices were not in use for many years, we managed to get a change of use and convert the whole unit into a hair beauty health salon. Now years later, I’ve opened up a Head Spa after seeing how popular they are on social media.
What Is Your Main Challenge and How Do You Overcome It?
What problem do you solve or what service do you offer customers?
I think a main challenge at this moment in time is dealing with the cost of living as a small business and our business is heavily reliant on customers who may also be watching their purse strings. The Way way I try to overcome this, is carrying out as much work such as website creation to DIY, anything I can do myself I will do you. I also maintain A tight grip on my finances, and as a trained bookkeeper I ensure I operate within my means and my business.
Another challenge is dealing with many different businesses that are operating in the same location. To help me deal with this I am very computer savvy and have adapted an online booking platform suitable for my needs. Where some office spaces let their desks go via a hot desk/ad-hoc booking system, I do the same, but for hair and beauty Treatment rooms. Anyone may hire a workspace for as little as four hours to make a more permanent arrangement.
Services we offer customers are hairdressing, beauty, aesthetics, massage, facials, electrolysis, laser, and Japanese Head Spa.
What Advice Would You Give to Businesses Like Yours?
Starting a business rarely takes off overnight and can take years to build a good foundation. The key is to keep focus, keep marketing, maintain excellent customer service and to adapt to the ever-changing world we live in don’t be afraid to try new things And don’t be afraid to fail, as learning from a failure can often lead to strength.
How Do You Make Your Customers Feel Special and Understood?
Customer service is extremely important in my industry. With many competitors out there there is a reason a customer will return and it’s not just because of a haircut people want value for money and also to be listened to. I go the extra mile off my customers, I listen to what they say and help them with any issues they may have. I also slowed down and would rather have extra time with my clients on a one-to-one basis than overbook.
What Print Products Do You Order From Us?
How Have They Brought You Success?
I’ve used instantprint for many years, and not only in my salon but a couple of other businesses I also won. I have ordered posters ranging From A1 size, I have used A5 printing for flyers and vouchers. I use instantprint for business cards. All these have helped with my success by enabling me to promote my business through constant marketing.
What Are Your Top Print Tips for Other Creators and Businesses?
Take inspiration from all around you, look at the colours you use, the fonts you use, everything portrays an image. Try to set a tone for your business and brand.
Why Do You Choose To Print With instantprint?
I use instantprint because I can create online and upload images in real time. It is great to see a PDF visual proof which can be downloaded on different devices and the quality is always perfect. It is also very affordable and for a small business, it is great to be able to order as I go along and not have to commit to huge batches.
Why Do You Use Print Marketing Alongside Digital Marketing?
My business is still very customer-based and face-to-face. In our reception area we have a wall for our leaflets and business cards as there are many businesses running from the same location, it helps us cross promote to each other and gives a client something tangible to hold onto, digital Acton also works well for those that have not yet been to our Salon and I find social platforms such as Facebook Instagram and TikTok are now started to bring in a different customer base. All in all our marketing is aimed to be local as we are a hands-on business. Digital marketing is fabulous for quick information deliverance, where print marketing is more physical. A social media post can be forgotten, but a leaflet or business card in the hand is memorable.
