Frequently Asked Questions
How are personalised Christmas cards printed?
The quantity of Christmas cards you order will determine how they are produced as we use two different techniques. For short-run quantities (less than 500), we print Christmas cards digitally on our iGen press, while orders of over 500 (also known as long run) are printed on one of our Heidelberg lithographic printing presses.
If you order foil Christmas cards, they will require additional finishing to add the embellishment. We run your printed Christmas cards through our MGI JETvarnish 3D to apply a layer a spot gloss and foil to your print.
Where to get Christmas cards printed

What to write in a Christmas card
The perfect accompaniment to any good Christmas card design is of course the personal message you write inside it. For corporate Christmas cards, you should always tailor the message you write to include specific details of why you’re thankful for your client’s services this year.
Here are a few examples of what to write in a Christmas card that you can add your own personal spin to:
- Thank you for all the support you have shown us this year. Merry Christmas!
- Wishing you peace, love and joy this Christmas
- Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from the whole team at [BUSINESS NAME]! We’d love to take this chance to say thank you for making it such a fantastic year and we can’t wait to work with you in the future
- Merry Christmas! The whole team sends their wishes for a successful new year!
Can you recycle Christmas cards?
The majority of our Christmas cards are widely recycled. The only cards that cannot be recycled are foil Christmas cards.
We print all of our cards on paper that’s sustainably sourced from FSC certified suppliers, including our 100% recycled Christmas cards. By using the greenest stocks available to us, this ensures that nearby local communities are respected, the habitats of endangered plants and animal species are protected, and that all workers are properly paid.
If you’d like us to add the official FSC logo to your Christmas cards, please send your request over to us in an email at artwork@instantprint.co.uk after you’ve placed your order.

When do you start sending Christmas cards?
According to Christmas card etiquette experts, the best time to send Christmas cards out in the post is during the first week in December. That’s close enough to Christmas that it won’t feel too early to receive a card, and it also gives the recipient plenty of time to write a card back.
When was the first Christmas card printed?
Christmas cards – like many festive traditions – date back to the Victorian period. The painter John Callcott Horsley designed the first Christmas card that was commissioned for commercial printing by the British inventor Sir Henry Cole in 1843.
