Frequently Asked Questions
What are the A4 dimensions?
A4 paper dimensions are 210mm x 297mm. It’s a very common size and is used for a range of things from menus to brochures. Although it’s used often for wall art and indoor posters, A4 isn’t a huge display size and therefore isn’t quite as effective if used in a large outdoor area. Instead, the A4 paper is the perfect fit when used at a close proximity. Not working in millimetres? No worries, here’s the sizing in cm, inches and pixels for you:
A4 size in cm: 21 x 29.7
A4 size in inches: 8.3 x 11.7
A4 size in pixels: 3508 x 2480
If you’re designing an A4 brochure or booklet for print, this will be the size of each individual page rather than a spread of two pages such as when the booklet is open.
What resolution do I need for the A4 size?
Setting up your print artwork to have a high resolution is really important for print. We measure it in DPI, or dots per inch, which basically means how many of the dots that make up your design live in each square inch – the more dots, the better the quality.
Despite being relatively small, the A4 size still needs to be set up at a high resolution. Whether it’s an A4 poster or a handout, print is often a customer’s first impression of you, so you need to make sure it counts with a high-quality finish.
You can create your own A4 printing design using a resolution of 297mm x 420mm at 300dpi (dots per inch), to make sure the end result is the best it can be. You’ll also need to add your 3mm bleed onto the above dimensions, this will ensure there’s no white border around your finished product.
Using an experienced in-house design team to bring your ideas to life? Or even outsourcing to a specialist freelancer? Great – they should know all about setting print artwork up to the right specifications using programs like Photoshop and InDesign.

What can I design at an A4 paper size?
Depending on the item you want to print, A4 is simultaneously our biggest and smallest size. (Hear us out!) If you’re printing small format products like flyers, booklets, calendars, letterheads and even A4 strut cards, this is one of the biggest sizes you can choose. Alternatively, you can also print large format items like magnetic and Correx ® by Corplex signs where A4 size is the smallest option.
Our Value A4 flyers are perfect for using as takeaway menus or handouts and are our cheapest A4 printing option with a budget-friendly 150gsm stock option, whereas the Classic A4 flyer offers a popular midweight 250gsm paper option and is finished with a smooth coating.
The Premium A4 flyers that we offer are printed on a luxurious 350gsm stock and can be laminated for long-lasting prints.
We have also helped businesses operating during the pandemic with our Antibacterial A4 flyers, which eliminate up to 99% of surface bacteria. This makes them perfect for restaurant menus and signposts in doctors’ surgery waiting rooms.
